Hello!  Thanks for stopping by!  We are updating our website, so check in often.  This year at the Robbins’s Homeschool (HS) we are studying Egypt, Greece and Rome.  We are looking into how God used History to work according to His purpose.  We have been going to the Library and have gotten as many as 70 resources at a time to read, watch and experience.  Chris, my husband, has taken the kids through the events in History and compared them to what is in the Bible and have made a timeline.  This has been wonderful for the whole family to see how events in the Bible fit into the events of the rest of the History we read about.

We are using different resources for the other subjects as well.  We are using:

Math : Horizon’s Math

Spelling: ACSI Spelling

Grammar: Easy Grammar; Daily Grams

Science: Discovering God’s Creation and other Science books that I have picked up along the way to supplement with.

Writing: How To Write , If You're Trying To Teach Kids How To Write   supplemented with my own program I put together.

Physical Education: The kids attend a HSPE class at the YMCA in our area that offers 1 hour of swimming and 1 hour of gym twice a week (they are with 30 kids on average).

Bible Study: The children and I attend a Bible Study once a week (they are each in a class with about 9 other kids) called “Bible Study Fellowship” or BSF.  It is comprehensive study of the Major and Minor prophets this year.  Also the kids keep a daily prayer journal they record their prayers to God in and how He answers them.  We also talk with, read with and pray with the kids whenever we want/feel lead to. J

Music:  We are introducing our formal study in January.  Keyboard Capers and Praise Guitar Made Easy. We listen to different types of music throughout the week.  We discuss the different types of music as well as different instruments.  We are taking them to some different concerts over the Christmas season.

The rest of the subjects, we cover as we experience life. For example:

Geography : we are exploring as we are studying Egypt, Greece and Rome.  For a project for our homeschool group that we belong to, LEARN, the kids studied the state of TN and presented what they learned at the group presentation night.  We have a large map in our HS room and have marked all the places we have been and all the place where we know people.  (This is a lot!)  The children also have placemats for the dinner table with a US map on one side and a World map on the other side that they explore often.  They have a globe and computer programs they play with as well.  When places come up in conversations, we look them up.  We are moving to KS next year and we will be doing a state project on KS before we leave.

The beautiful part of Homeschooling is that learning never stops.  The whole family seeks out new and wonderful things to learn about.  We share more time together and we are all growing.  We really praise the Lord for this opportunity to get to HS our children!

 In Jesus love,

Donna Lisa J
